I just got a schnauzer a lower allergy breed. I have a 5 year old
wheaten and nobody had any problems with him but this female
schnauzer puppy is killing us already. Have to call the allergist in
the morning and extremely stressed about the whole thing. Hope your
cockapoo works out.

I'm sorry to hear that. Are you guys normally allergic to dogs?
Maybe getting the second dog was just too much dander in the house.
I hope things work out and your allergist can help you. Our puppy is
coming in two days. I'm nervous about the allergies but hopeful that
things will work out. If not, I'll be seeing my allergist too!
Take care and keep me posted.

Sorry to hear that! Are you guys normally allergic to dogs or is
this a new thing? I wonder if adding a second dog to the household,
and not the breed of dog, is what threw your allergies over the
edge.
Let m know what the doctor says.

Jun 1, 07 - 10:40 PM Children and dog allergies question
My daughter has severe dog allergies. We have an AHT and she is able
to tolerate her as long as we bath her and put lotion on her
frequently and my daughter doesn't touch her face after touching the
dog.
My problem is my grandmother has a daschund that she thinks she can
no longer care for so she is adamant that my mother takes her
daschund. My daughter is very close with my parents and this will be
an issue for her(my duaghter has eczema as well as allergy induced
asthma). We visit them at least once a week and she frequently
spends the night there.
Can anyone advise me to any articles relating to daschunds and dog
allergies? Any advise on how to handle the situation? It is very
frustrating since my family acts like it isnt a big deal, and we
make it a big deal...It is very serious for us...we used to have
dogs that shed (prior to us knowing about her allergies) and we were
in the hospital once per month for her asthma. Once we found new
homes for the dogs almost all of my daughters symptoms went away.
Our doctor said that she could have major problems and be
hosptialized being around dogs, and that she cannot be around them
even in backyards, etc.
Thank you!

What changed in your life 4 months ago? There are a lot of things
that will cause allergies besides pets. Have you started eating
something new? The reaction you describe is what happens to me when
I eat raw fruits and vegetables - I did not have this problem when I
was young. I have no problem with them canned or cooked. An increase
in stress can also cause these symptoms. The allergy doctors say I
am allergic to dogs and cats, but I only have a problem with
specific breeds of each. It may not be your pets - check for food
allergies.

I am going through the same thing basically...I have had like a lump
and tightness on the left side of my throat and burning and even ear
pain for 7 months now.....after many tests, they finally done
allergy testing, and I am very allergic to dogs.....I have 3 little
ones in the house with me...2 toy poodles and a chi......I have had
dogs all my life also.....I started on meds...don't let them into
the bedroom anymore..clean my house like a mad woman....but no pain
relief yet....I have only been on the meds. a few days, so we will
see....but I won't get rid of my dogs!!!!

Aug 29, 07 - 6:32 PM Hives from one boxer but not the other
I have had my boxers their whole life. My female is 5 and my male is
2. I have never been allergic to my female, but every time i touch
my male(newer) dog, i break out in an itchy rash. What is the
difference, is there anything i can do. I feel bad because i have a
totally different relationship with the male that the female. I know
this sounds awful, but I try not to touch the male too much. Dont
worry though, he is my husbands dog!!!

Your best bet is to make an appointment with an allergist (MD) and
discuss your problem with him/her. While you are waiting for you
appointment, you could try the over-the-counter antihistamine
Claritin or any of its generic versions. Just look for loratadine as
the active ingredient. It is non-drowsy.
