45. Is my son allergic to
my Welsh-Corgi?

My son is allergic to dust, dust mites, molds etc.
He is currently getting shots weekly. Recently he has had some
asthma episodes. We have a hepa cleaner in his room, bagless vacuum,
a special air filter on the furnace, all the allergen bedding. My
husband thinks our hairy corgi dog is a big problem. When my son was
tested he didn't have much of a reaction to dogs. I really don't
want to get rid of my dog but would if it would help my son. Does
anyone have any thoughts on this.

Ok, So I LOVE dogs. I've always had dogs growing up,
and can't imagine my life w/out one. I'll be moving off campus soon,
and can't imagine doing so w/out getting a dog. I've had labs all my
life, and it's just a natural part of me to have one!
Only problem is...
I also can't imagine my life w/out my girlfriend...
who practically implodes whenever dogs are within 82 miles of her...
Her syptoms are:
She gets very rashy, breaks out into hives wherever
the dog touches, very itchy, sort of gets cold-like symptoms no
breathing problems though
When she takes a shower, the hives go away and she's
fine. She's not allergic to the fur as much as the saliva, so the
dander-free dogs don't offer much of an alternative.
If ANYBODY has any way for me to be able to keep my
girl AND get a dog I'd be perfectly willing to offer them my ETERNAL
GRATITUDE as a reward!!!
Please respond by e-mail!!!
Thanks, Peace,
Jacob

Motherduck says that if you really love your sister,
you will not compromise her health by adding to her problem.
Allergies can become more severe with prologed exposure. Your sister
could very well become asthmatic within a short time after exposure.
You will have invested money , time and emotion into a pet that you
cannot keep. Your sister will be as heartbroken as you, and end up
feeling guilty about the whole thing. It is also very unfair to the
dog, who will learn to love you, and then have to get adjusted to a
new home, that is , if you can find one.
Life is hard enough, don't make it harder!

first dog we have had in the house. we have a kennel outside. i bath
her frequently, tried all kinds of supplements, to help her stop
shedding, and it doesn't work. now with the fall and winter coming,
our windows are closed. my eyes itch, throat tightens, and nasal

husband says i am the only one who has this problem. i ended up with
sinus infections, needing meds for it. I don't know what to do! I

slightly allergic to the dog, can have severe allergic reaction when
exposed to too many allergens all at once. Sadto say but this
happened to my husband when I brought a cat home. He was'nt aware
that he had so many allergies allready....just slight headaches &
sometimes a stuffy nose. When the cat was added....booom!! He
suffered asthma attacks. I was very fortunate to find a loving home
for my pet, but I cried and cried. It was difficult, but I was very
fortunate that my husband was able to fully recover.Good luck, and
get that man of yours some Claratin. It will not cause drowsiness,

I am allergic to certain types of dog hair/breeds
and saliva. I have found that as far as the saliva goes puppies give
me more of a reaction than adult dogs, so maybe an adult dog would
be better for you than a pup. I don't know if there are certain
breeds with low allergen saliva. Individual dogs vary greatly in how
much they lick people. I have three dogs and two do not lick at all,
the third one I have to keep after not to lick me and she has
learned what "no lick" means.
Bathing the dogs often (once or twice a week) keeps
the salavia on the skin/coat of the dog from building up and causing
you a reaction. If I don't have time for a full bath I just wipe
them off with baby wipes.

Maybe you are allergic to those latex gloves.
Allergies to laxtex in gloves can be so severe that most doctors
offices are going "laytex-free". The flea spray could do it too. If
you brake out in hives when the dog licks you though, you are
probably allergic. See an Allergist. You may have to go to your
regular doctor for a referral to an allergist though, depending on
your parents insurance coverage. Good luck, and dont forget to ask
God to help you through this situation.
